Do they have to be dry cleaned or can I safely wash it at home in the washing machine???…Thanks…Tom Science 4

I wash all my waterproof jackets in Nickwax Tech Wash. This is much better for the garment than regular detergent. It is available at most ski and snowboard shops that sell jackets.

Using mild detergent is OK if you don’t have Tech Wash. Just follow the directions on the tag of the jacket. If you don’t have the washing directions, best bet is to wash and rinse in cold.

Tumble dry on low or no heat as heat can damage the synthetic material. Using fabric softner may cause the waterproof membrane to get clogged up and stop working.

If you need to re-waterproof, try washing the jacket with Nickwax TX Direct once the jacket has been washed with Tech Wash or detergent. It comes in wash-in and spray-on varieties…the wash-in is better.

I have a pair of ski pants that I use for snowmaking, patrolling, running lifts, and in the backcountry. They are about eight years old and I wash them in Tech Wash 2-3 times a season. They are still very waterproof and I plan to use them until they can’t be repaired anymore….I beat the snbt out of them.

not too pricey, steady recording, durable, hassle-free

If you are snowboarding at high altitude or plan to fall, you want to stay away from hard drive based camcorders. You should ALWAYS stay away from DVD based camcorders.

That leaves flash memory or miniDV tape. The only way to capture steady video is to not he hand-held. Humans were not built to be rock-steady. Obviously, you cannot use a tripod or mono-pod but you really should try some sort of steadying device… For flexibility, I would suggest either a traditional camcorder with AV-in (the Sony DCR-HC96 was a good one, but no longer manufactured). I didn’t spend much time looking for a camcorder with AV-in for you – not many have this capability, but my thought is you want this feature so can use a helmet cam – that way your hands are free to use for snowboarding.

There is no stabilization available in a consumer camcorder – electronic or optical – that will provide you "steady recording". There is no such thing as a "hassle free" delicate consumer camcorder – or any other electronic device – that you will be taking to the snow (and potentially getting wet). The low-end "waterproof" cams will not provide "high quality", have small lenses and small imaging chips and will result in unstable/shakey video (whether handheld or not).

Camcorderinfo.com may help you find a camcorder in your budget range that has AV-input for the helmet cam…

i rock a brown and white jacket with tan pants with thin brown lines with a brown hat and blue bandanna. But i would tell you find ur own style and find what you think looks sick. It always feels better and looks better when you got ur own personal style going.
