hi im 14 and have been boarding for a few years and got pretty good. im looking for some new gear, i know the brands and everything but i am stuck on what colors i want. i need to know some colors for a jacket and pants combo.thanks

i rock a brown and white jacket with tan pants with thin brown lines with a brown hat and blue bandanna. But i would tell you find ur own style and find what you think looks sick. It always feels better and looks better when you got ur own personal style going.

So im looking at a Burton snowboard jacket online and next to the information for the insulation it says Thermacore™ Insulation [40G Throughout] but i don’t know what that means. It also says 2-Layer Coated Fabric [10,000MM, 5,000G]. Please tell me what this means.

The insulation is the weight of the loft, so 40 grams per inch (or centimeter or whatever). The heavier the loft the more per inch there is, meaning an increased ability to insulate.

the 2 layer fabric is part of the waterproofing technology so 10,000 mm waterproofing, 5,000 breathability. It’s how much water pressure the jacket can support before it can’t take it anymore and absorbs the water, followed by it’s ability to let moisture (from snowmelt or sweat against your body evaporate away.

40 grams is pretty lite insulation. Heavy down jackets will be up around 500-600 grams. as far as waterproofing, 10,000 is pretty standard amongst quality jackets. I’ve seen 15, 20, and even 30,000, but over 15 is usually overkill. The breathability rating would be nice if it’s a little higher, but 5,000 isn’t terrible. You generally won’t see lower than that on a good jacket though.

I have seen people wearing the jacket i want, but i can’t find it anywhere. I have seen guys wearing it too, so if you find it in guys small, that might work too. I think it is a burton jacket.

I’ve been looking for a snowboard jacket and I found one I like but it says its only a shell. I have a general idea but what exactly is a shell of a jacket? Will it keep me warm enough?

A shell has no insulation so, apart from keeping wind out, will not keep you warm. The solution is to wear another layer.

I prefer shells – they are more versatile.
